If you are the kind who’d prefer their steed to brace latest tech while pedalling through city streets or steep gradients, GoCycle G3 electric bike is what you should consider.

It’s the third and latest generation of elegant, lightweight, desirable, digitally connected and ergonomic e-bikes offered by Karbon Kinetics Limited, an e-bike company founded by Richard Thorpe, former design engineer at Mclaren Cars.

Depending on how much you’re willing to sweat out, how easy or hard you want your ride to be, its GoCycle Connect app lets you monitor the amount of assistance you can get from its powerful front electric motor with your pedalling.

You can effortlessly pair GoCycle G3 electric bike with your smartphone and not only switch between preset modes (City, Eco, On Demand and Custom), for maximum and minimum amount of push from the motor, but also control your speed, battery and keep a track of distance traveled and calories burnt.

Also, it’s the first e-bike to feature a built in DRL (Daytime Running Light). DRLs are used for a completely different purpose. Unlike the conventional night lights meant to see the road ahead of the rider, DRLs come on board to improve the visibility of the G3 rider himself for other road users, ensuring safety for both the rider and others on the road.

With just about the same weight as its precursor G2, this 16.7kg e-bike comes fitted with a bigger battery having additional 25% capacity, given the new Battery Management System (BMS) developed by Karbon Kinetics.

As a result, G3 makes for a range of 50 miles (80 Km), 10 miles more than the earlier G2 before its battery needs to be juiced up. You won’t be able to speed up beyond 25 km per hour though as that’s the maximum limit its motor offers. But that’s certainly adequate for a busy city commute.

The handlebars come integrated with LED headlights and a dashboard featuring an edge to edge hassle free display that shows all the information the rider needs – power and gear shift buttons, driving mode, selected gear, battery level and speed all with the help of LED lights.

Most modern e-bikes come fitted with derailleur gears, the system in which the chain moves between cogs on the rear wheel, that need practice and skill to escape the odds of leaving even the experienced riders at times in a wrong gear.

GoCycle G3 gets along predictive electronic gear shifting that shifts up and down automatically with changing terrains and increasing pedalling rate. It has three gears, which can be selected easily by twisting the left hand grip.

It puts you in a lower gear the moment it senses you are bringing the e-bike to a stop, say at the traffic lights, so that you can easily go again the moment light turns green.

It makes use of built – in, bulletproof, Shimano Nexus 3 speed hub gear at the rear. You can also choose to change the gear on your own with the help of the electronic button provided on the handlebar.

So with no sprockets, chain, cables, gears and oil messing up your riding experience, GoCycle G3 makes for a clean design and an e-bike that’s easy to handle.

Given the pitstop wheels, that help you remove the wheels with your hands by flipping them back thrice, and its compact design, this light weight e-bike is stowable. You can also buy a G3 docking station that is available as an accessory.

The first contention, which many would not find a big deal, is the fact that its battery cannot be removed for charging. Yeah, you’ll have to place your e-bike near a plug socket for charging.

The other can be price. It’s far from cheap. But if these aren’t the things that can bother you, GoCycle G3 makes for a great e-bike.

Price: $5060 approximately
